Here’s a summary of trips that are described across several blog posts, organized by year.

Holiday Road Trip 2017. December 2017 found us in the Eastern Sierra near Bishop, California. We tested our camper in the snow at 10° F in Hope Valley, visited petroglyph sites in the Tablelands, and enjoyed dutch oven cooking for Christmas in the Alabama Hills before returning via Walker Pass.

Chasing Fall Color. October 2017 was the first Four Wheel Pop-up Camper adventure for the two of us and our dog Carson. Overall we logged 2322 miles over 15 days, exploring the Eastern Sierra, then on through Nevada (passing near Area 51) to southern Utah where we made quick visits to Bryce and Zion National Parks and Cedar Breaks National Monument.

BASK Skills Clinic 2017. Treve participated in the club’s annual Skills Clinic for six weekends in August & September. Topics included outfitting for an overnight trip, how to initiate a paddle, paddle strokes, surfing, surf zone, managing rough conditions, navigation, and much more. (He also convinced Joann to attend in 2019.)

Touring Southern Utah. We took a road trip to explore southern Utah in May 2017. We were amazed to win the walk-in lottery allowing us to hike The Wave, enjoyed remote areas of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, and photographed sunset at Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River.

Walking & Cycling in France. After two days in Paris at the start of September 2016, we began a self-guided walking tour of the Dordogne region. Following our walk and a day in Bordeaux, we cycled from Cadillac to Arcachon.

Multiple Years

Paddling with BASK: Thursday is my new Saturday. It seems that my weekends have become so crammed full of responsibilities that I’m taking Thursday off as a day for recreation. I join several fellow paddlers as often as I can for the Bay Area Sea Kayakers (BASK) “Thursday Lunch Paddle.”
